As we honor those who served this Veterans Day, it seems appropriate to also remember a man born on this day 183 years ago. A man of extraordinary courage and fortitude, he and his brother were the first pair of brothers to both receive the Medal of Honor for actions on the battlefield during the Civil War. Later he would again make great personal sacrifice as defense attorney for the Haymarket Square defendants in Chicago. William Perkins Black was born on this day in 1842. He was raised a Master Mason in Olive Branch Lodge 38. Here is a link to his findagrave.com memorial page. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/8114665/william_perkins-black
